The Story of Hyderabad’s Proud 21Kms ORRCyclingTrack with Solar Panels

This is one big example of success of Cycling Community of Hyderabad.

Cycling Promotion and Cycling Events in Hyderabad starts all the way from Hyderabad Bicycling Club, Hyderabad Cyclists Group and Happy Hyderabad Cycling Group 5 to 15 years ago. All the groups had been doing a fantastic job in engaging cycling and keeping the spirit up in our city Hyderabad till date. Extremely proud of all the cycling group’s work till today and for future!

However, lot more had to be done in our city, in terms of Infrastructure and Adoption of Cycling. Beginning April 2021, we engaged Cyclists of Hyderabad with #ReliefRidersHyderabad and made a huge impact and proved a point that “Cyclists are not a problem on the road, but solution“. Later in the year, shockingly – we had a loss of cyclist in the early morning of New Year Eve. That is when, the thought of a Revolution came into picture.

With Hyderabad Cycling Revolution 1.0, we brought together all Cycling Groups in the city to one logical entity called Cycling Community Of Hyderabad.

With the huge Cyclists presence we have been showing, Government recognized that we Cycling Community Of Hyderabad do exist. There was a tweet in Twitter that there is a Safe Bicycle Track with Solar Panels on top in South Korea. We requested, if this can be done in Hyderabad also. Honourable Minister KT Rama Rao gaaru requested Special Chief Secretary Sri. Arvind Kumar IAS sir to immediately consider this.

During the year 2021, we Hyderabad Cycling Revolution with the lead of Santhana Selvan, Bicycle Mayor of Hyderabad, the HCR Core Team and Operational Leaders team, had been in touch with lot of Government Stakeholders.

1. HUMTA MD Mrs.Vijayalakshmi and team contacted us and requested us to come to HGCL office. We had a meeting with Chief Engineer Ravinder gaaru and HUMTA MD and team and we were asked for list of possible tracks for such purpose. We proposed about 10 routes in the city. One of the routes was ORR and that was chosen for obvious reason that there was land availability for HMDA to immediately implement without any hassles.
   
   
2. We also met MAUD (Ministry of Municipal Administration and Urban Development) team in Masab Tank and discussed all possible solutions and what more can be done in our city. We had been constantly in touch with all the stakeholders in our city – HMDA, HGCL, GHMC, MAUD and many more at different levels.
   
   
3. Post that, we met with Mr.Arvind Kumar IAS, Special Chief Secretary Telangana and also prepared for the Bhoomi Pooja visit with Mr. K T Rama Rao gaaru, Minister of Municipal Administration, Information Technology and Industries in Telangana. We proposed the 6Es solution (Education, Enforcement, Engineering, Engagement, Empowerment and Encouragement) to Mr. Arvind Kumar sir. It was well received and noted with great respect. 4. We, Santhana Selvan, Bicycle Mayor of Hyderabad and Hyderabad Cycling Revolution team (Ravi Sambari and Anjani TSN – Core Team, HCR) visited along with the Contractor of the Bicycle Lanes and attended Bhoomi Pooja.
   
   
   
   
   
   
5. We congratulated and appreciated the Government with Hyderabad Cycling Revolution 2.0 event on Durgam Cheruvu Cable Bridge. It was a grand event with 2000 Cyclists on the bridge.

6. We also connected all the vendors from the Country India for Bicycle Rentals (Public Bicycle Sharing) and Bicycle Racks in the ORR Bicycle Track. About 475 Own Bicycle Racks/Parking Spots are being planned and Rental Bicycles spots of about 375 are being planned – that counts to 850 Bicycle parking spots.

7. At last the launch day of this world famous Bicycle Track is being planned by August 15th by Minister KTR gaaru and Hyderabad Cycling Revolution team has planned for a large mass Bicycle ride to the launch event.
